APPANOOSE COUNTY, IOWA -- A former southeast Iowa woman, accused of trying to kill her baby, not once, but twice, has learned when she will go on trial.

Kristina Kennedy-Maroney, 23, now of Hicksville, Ohio, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of child endangerment. Kennedy-Maroney will stand trial beginning January 2 in Appanoose County.

During the first attempt on the child, Kennedy-Maroney allegedly held the 5-month-old girl’s face underwater for three seconds in the bath tub. The second attempt was when she allegedly held a pillow over the girl’s face for about ten seconds.

The victim is now 3 years of age.

Kennedy-Maroney is being held in the Appanoose County jail under $60,000 cash only bond.
