February is American Heart Month, and Heart disease is still our No. 1 killer – it affects more women than men and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.

According to the American Heart Association:

1. Heart disease causes one in three women’s deaths each year, killing approximately one woman every minute.

2. An estimated 43 million women in the U.S. are affected by heart disease.

3. Ninety percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.

The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. There mission is to build healthier lives by preventing, treating and defeating these diseases – America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. They fund cutting-edge research, conduct lifesaving public and professional educational programs, and advocate for protection of public health.
