Question: Who Should get the flu vaccine?

Answer: Anyone older than 6 months and who doesn’t have a major contra-indication (Guillian Burre or severe reaction to shot in previous)

Question: Some people need two flu shots, is that true?

Answer: Any child less than 8 years of age who has not had 2 prior shots, should get two this year, then they should get one yearly.

Question: What is the new transdermal or under the skin shot?

Answer: Very short, small needle, just a shot under the skin, not deep in the muscle. Less muscle pain, but does have a local reaction that looks like a bee sting.

Question: Does the Flu vaccine make you sick?

Answer: Live attenuated may cause mild joint pain and stuffiness. Dead virus virtually has no side effects. Nausea and Vomiting is an entirely different group of viruses (stomach flu is not related) and if this occurs is a coincidence

Question: If you do get the flu, is there medication to treat?

Answer: Yes, but the data for the anti-flu medication is worse than the flu shot, especially if started later on in the disease.

Question; What are some ways to prevent the flu?

Answer:  Don’t forget to wash your hands, stay away from people when sick, especially with a fever, cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.
