AGENCY, IOWA -- A new facility aimed toward helping those recovering from substance abuse and other addictions is going to be opening soon in southeast Iowa.

For the past two year, First Resources Corporation has been converting a former home in southeast Iowa, into a residential treatment center for those struggling with addictions.

“It has been an amazing thing to see. It has been a labor of love from the whole community,” said Cathy Pringle, a clinical supervisor with First Resources.

The facility, called Hope House, is set to open in early fall; and will be one of only four treatment centers like itself in all of Iowa.

“It is huge. I mean we have got Iowa numbers that show the need for southeast Iowa and rural communities. I think many times in rural Iowa, it is harder for people to get services because of the geographic location,” said Pringle.

At first, the facility will house women and children; healing both the mind, body and spirit.

“They will have time to come in here to heal from the substance abuse; heal their brains, heal their families and look at jobs, employment, so that they can be successful; and so that their children can live a happier life,” said Pringle.

For a group of women from the Trinity United Methodist Church of Albia, making quilts for those who are going to call the center home, came straight from the heart.

One volunteer spoke on behalf of the group saying, “When we heard about the project that they are doing for the women and children here, we just thought this was a good way to bless them; and to bring quilts that we have used our hands to make, to warm them and brighten their lives, and to make their new home, home.”

The Hope House was remodeled almost entirely by volunteers and through donations.

If you would like to donate to the Hope House, contact First Resources Corporation at 641-682-2800.
