KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It was a warm morning for a run and some members of Adair County Law Enforcement ran for a cause.

Tuesday was the 25^th Annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.  The torch started at Jim Robertson’s Car Dealership around 8 a.m. and headed south down Baltimore.  Adair County Sheriff Robert Hardwick made the torch handoff downtown.  Parents and members of the Special Olympics escorted the torch around the Kirksville square.

State Representative Rebecca McClanahan participated in the run around the square.  She says she was thrilled at the chance to participate.

“This is just a wonderful event…this morning…the torch run.  Raising money for Special Olympics.  And of course we had some of the Special Olympics participants running with us this morning and they are just precious,” McClanahan said.

One of the event coordinators says the torch run is to support the kids.

“It’s for them, so they have something they can participate in and feel really good about it,” said Melissa Hocker.

The torch made its way to Macon, Missouri and then to Moberly, Missouri. The four day relay covers more than 950 miles with 1,000 runners. The torch will end up in Springfield, Missouri, the site of the state summer games.
