Friends and family will join to honor Anessa, and the public is welcome to attend, no registration required.

"The Crisis Center will be here also with a guest speaker. When we go up to the cemetery, we'll probably say a short couple of words," said Lisa Johnson, a family friend. "So it's going to be a good day, good day of celebration also."

The day also aims to teach everyone that any kind of abuse, even verbal, should not be tolerated.

"We need to teach our children that it's not right," Johnson said. "You need to tell somebody and get help. There's resources out there available, the crisis center. We have to teach our girls, not only our girls, but our boys, that there's help available."

Anessa's family will be selling t-shirts, courtesy of Stampede Graphics, for $15. All proceeds will go towards the Crisis Center.
