KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Even though it was cold and windy outside on Saturday, that did not stop one program from helping out the people of the community.

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri held a 12-hour St. Patrick's Day Food Drive at the Kirksville Wal-Mart and Hy-Vee.

People were allowed to drop off canned goods, like canned potatoes, or make monetary donations to help feed the hungry people of northeast Missouri.

"Potatoes are a good food. We want to connect with other things that are around here. Feeding hungry people can be fun. People were having a good time here. When they were not freezing," said Mike DeSantis of The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

DeSantis even dressed up as a leprechaun to help bring some green fun to the event.

About 300 pounds of food and $300 in donations were collected and all of it will stay here in the area through The Salvation Army and The Christian Community Food Depot.
