KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Catholic schools across the country and here in the Heartland are celebrating an annual event all this week.

Mary Immaculate Catholic School in Kirksville is taking part in National Catholic Schools Week.

This year's theme is "Catholic Schools: Raise The Standards."

Events include game day, a pancake and pajama breakfast, prayer day, and a 50's sock hop day.

Principal Sister Ruth Ann Klauser says this special week helps teach students the importance of using the power of faith to help make a difference in the community.

"It's about promoting action of the faith. Lots of times, they go to church and pray, but we want them to live it out. Faith must be lived out , so the children are doing it by working hard and using their gifts are suppose to be using," Klauser said.

The school's community project for Catholic Schools Week will be donating items to the Genesis House.

Mary Immaculate School will be holding an open house on Sunday February 10 to give new families the chance to come see the school and an opportunity to sign new students for the next school year. Mary Immaculate School teaches students from Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade.
