KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Downtown Kirksville will have a new outlook for the summer months thanks to a big change from one Heartland university.

At Tuesday evening's Kirksville Downtown Improvement Committee (KDIC) meeting, the group talked about the recent announcement from A.T. Still University that the new in-coming students will start classes in July rather than mid-August.

With the summer season usually being the slow season in the town with the good majority of Truman State and ATSU students gone, just having this new group of students will help bring some life and activity to the downtown district and its businesses.

"No doubt any type of influx into the town is going to help the whole community with activity now all year round rather than having that quiet time during the summer," said KDIC President Justin Tallman.

The committee is now in the process of planning how to welcome the new students when they arrive in July.

Other things KDIC discussed was judging the St. Patrick's Day window contest and the plan to kick off their new membership drive in April to get people involved in downtown.
