CALLAO, MO. --

School safety has been a serious topic in the last few months. One Heartland school is making it harder for just anyone to walk through its doors.

The Callao superintendent and staff are having a fundraiser to contribute to a new system to make sure the students are safe.

“Because of the national response to intruder safety, we have decided that we need to upgrade our safety and security in the building,” Callao Superintendent Pam Halstead said. “So, we're purchasing a camera and an alarm for the front door, and eight security cameras for outside the building.”

The fundraiser is Friday, March 22 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Students in Kindergarten through eighth grade will provide entertainment.

The school is asking everyone to bring a covered dish and their own table service with a $5 donation, or $20 donation per family.
