KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The suspect in a notorious stabbing and dismemberment case in Kirksville is having his case moved to a higher court.

Paul Potter, 49, of Kirksville waived his preliminary hearing Thursday in Adair County Associate Circuit Court.

The murder suspect's next court date is now set for April 2, 2013 in Adair County Circuit Court.

Potter is accused of fatally stabbing Willis Edward Meredith, 74, back in early January.

Meredith was Potter's neighbor at the Village 76 senior housing complex in Kirksville.

Investigators said Potter also cut off the victim's arms and set fires to conceal the crime.

The suspect is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, arson and burglary. Potter remains jailed in Kirksville on $1 million cash only bond.
