MACON, MO -- An ammo shortage across the United States is now hitting the Heartland.

There are empty shelves in Hunter's Haven gun shop in Macon, Mo., and those empty shelves they say it all.

Many people are getting scared that more restrictions will be placed on ammunition, so they're trying to stock up.

Tish Carr, the owner of Hunter's Haven, says the shortage is happening everywhere.

"It's just with everybody and we are limited," Carr said. "So when we do get ammo we try to share it with everybody. So we are limiting it to two boxes per customer. As of this morning a couple of our distributors are limiting what we can buy now because they are trying to, as you say, spread the wealth with everybody."

Carr tells us her business has also seen an increase in gun sales since President Obama's gun control plan, an effort to prevent mass shootings.

Obama's proposal calls for four main changes: close background check loopholes, ban military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, make schools safer and increase access to mental health services.

Carr says this "scare" is preventing people from enjoying what they consider a sport.
