OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa will get a visit from world renowned singer Simon Estes Sunday, January 20.

Estes will perform at 3 p.m. in the Hellyer Student Life Center at Indian Hills. The concert will feature not only Estes' voice, but a special collaborative performance with the Indian Hills Concert Choir and combined choirs from Ottumwa High School, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont High School and Cardinal High School.

The concert is co-sponsored by the Indian Hills Community College Department of Performing and Visual Arts and the Ottumwa School District and funded by the donations by John Deere Ottumwa Works, the Legacy Foundation's Bright Ideas Community Enrichment Fund, Ottumwa Arts Council, Target, South Ottumwa Savings Bank and AmericInn. The donations allow proceeds from the concert to benefit local students with an interest in the arts.

"Half of the money that was raised for this concert through some very generous donations from community organizations here in Ottumwa will be going back to scholarships for students in Wapello County who want to pursue a career in the arts," said Dr. Jennifer Boyenga, Director of Fine Arts at Indian Hills.

Estes is originally from Centerville, and his stop in Ottumwa is part of his Roots and Wings Tour, which has brought him to all 99 counties in the state.

The event is free and open to the public, and doors will open around 2 p.m. Sunday.
