KIRKSVILLE, MO -- One northeast Missouri community organization is looking for more volunteers in their biggest event of the year.

The North Central Missouri Chapter for Project Linus is inviting the public to the 14th annual "Make A Blanket Day" at the El Kadir Shrine Club in Kirksville on Saturday, February 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Volunteers will be making and collecting new handmade blankets and quilts which help bring comfort and security to ill, traumatized, or needy children up to 18 years old in the area.

"They're a hug when a child needs it most. We don't know what each child will experience or face. The blanket offers comfort to them. A child may had to go with nothing. So to be able to give them a blanket, something of their very own to keep and wrap up and find comfort in is priceless," said Connie Douvier, Coordinator for the North Central Missouri Chapter for Project Linus.

Participants may bring a completed blanket or bring their own sewing machine and complete one of the pre-cut kits. All completed blankets donated will be eligible for a chance to win a new sewing machine.

No sewing experience is needed.
