LANCASTER, MO -- What’s happening to cash rents after the drought of this year? How much more fertilizer will need to be applied due to the corn silage being removed? Are there any good ways to reduce feed costs this winter? These are just a few of the questions that will be addressed at the Lady Landowner Workshop coming up at the Livonia Community Building on Tuesday, October 23rd.
The University of Missouri Extension in Putnam and Schuyler counties and the Schuyler and Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) will be hosting this program which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will include a noon meal and materials. This program is targeted to women landowners, whether they are operating or renting the farm on their own or with their spouse or significant other, but like all our programs, they are open to all. The program is no cost with the meal being provided courtesy of the sponsors.
“Women are key partners in most farming operations and usually outlive their spouse, making it vitally important that they understand the farm business” says Darla Campbell, Agricultural Business Specialist with University of Missouri Extension who helps with the program. The agenda for the day includes speakers from Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), the Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), and the University of Missouri Extension. Topics will include updated information about the FSA and NRCS program offerings; Current Issues and Concerns in Farm Rental Rates; the Impact of the Drought on Lawns and Gardens; Impact of the Drought on Row and Cover Crops and Reducing Feed Costs for Beef Cattle.
Please plan to join us for this event by registering with Darla Campbell by October 19th. Call the Schuyler County Extension office at (660) 457-3469 or e-mail campbelld@missouri.edu for more information and to get registered.
