Donald Parker, 84, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.  He had been a resident there for a brief time, recently moving from the Bristol Manor in Unionville.

Donald Rozell Parker was born near Milan, MO, on October 6, 1927, the son of Marshall R. and Mary Geneva (McCalley) Parker, who preceded him in death.  He later graduated from High School in Mt. Sterling, IL, and then joined the United States Coast Guard, where he served briefly until it was discovered he had suffered burns on the palms of his hands as a child.  He was honorably discharged.  Donald then attended Parks College for training as an airplane mechanic.  While there he learned to fly an airplane, although he never pursued this interest.

Donald worked for over 35 years as an airplane mechanic, mainly for Ozark Airlines out of St. Louis, MO.  He lived in St. Charles during this time and upon retirement moved to Kirksville, MO, before moving to Unionville.  Donald was a man of many varied interests including hunting and fishing.  He loved to read and learn new things.  He read the Bible many times and, at the time of his death, was teaching himself Spanish.

Donald is survived by three sisters: Mary Jane Coyne of Ankeny, IA; Gloria Trammel of Unionville, MO; and Melva Manjack of Chicago, IL.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Glavas, Thelma Keene; and a brother, Norman Parker.

Funeral services for Donald Parker will be at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Scobee Cemetery in Pollock, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Scobee Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
