Richard E. Smith, 65 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (Sept. 9, 2012) at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.
    
The son of Raymond Harold and Marjorie Ailene (Furgason) Smith, he was born October 25, 1946 in Kirksville, Missouri. On May 13, 1972 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Pamela D. Gross and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
    
Richard is survived by one son, Justin Smith and wife Saundra of Osceola, IA; three daughters, Chris Morris and husband Scott of Kirksville, Paula VanRie and husband Troy of Kirksville and Stacy Stephens and husband Rich of Barnhart, MO; eight grandchildren, Max, Emma, Parker, Bailey, Vanessa, Miranda, Zack and Emily; and one sister, Reba Gibbons.
    
Richard grew up in Kirksville and attended the Kirksville schools, graduating from the Kirksville High School. He worked for Donaldson in Kirksville until it closed. He and Pam then owned and operated Poor Richard’s.
    
He was a member of the El Kadir Shriner Club. He loved following St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing and was a great familyman.
    
Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday (Sept. 14, 2012) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Virgil K. Jones officiating. Entombment will be in Maple Hills Cemetery Mausoleum.
    
Pallbearers will be Alva Martin, Buck Charles, Rich Stephens, Troy VanRie, Justin Smith and Max Stephens.
    
Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home

Memorials in memory of Richard can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
