John D. Miller
1917 – 2012

John D. Miller, 95, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away Tuesday (August 21, 2012) at his home.

The son of Marion Charles and Sylvia May (Davis) Miller, he was born March 13, 1917 in Connelsville, Missouri. On February 12, 1947 in Novinger, John D. was united in marriage to Jenrose Evonne Pope.

John D. is survived by his wife, Jenrose of sixty-five years; two sons, J.D. Miller and Marion Miller both of Novinger, MO; two daughters Linda Pickett and Brenda Tuttle both of Novinger, MO; three sisters, Loree Lay of Big Rock, IL, Maizie Sevits of Kirksville, MO and Carmelita Llewellyn of Mt. Clemons, MI; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and two grandchildren.

John D. resided most of his life in Adair County, and received his education at the Connelsville rural school. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII, serving in France, where he was involved in the Normandy Invasion, receiving the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. After being honorably discharged, John D. returned home and farmed his entire life in the Connelsville area.

John D’s hobbies included squirrel hunting, fishing and being outdoors on his farm.

Public visitation is in progress and family will receive friends this evening, Thursday (August 23, 2012) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. 

Graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday (August 24, 2012) at Novinger Cemetery in Novinger, with Chaplain Carol Davenport presiding.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and granddaughters, Josh Shumaker, Kevin Blackorby, Kail Shumaker, Sarah Eads, Kristi Zentz, Chad Miller and Denton Miller.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of John D. Miller may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
