OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa has several great events benefiting great causes this coming weekend, one of which is the Heartland Humane Society's annual plant sale.

The fundraiser's creator said she saw her church hold a similar event, and thought it would be a great idea for the Humane Society as well.

"It was just something that our church started and I thought, well, golly, if they can do it, so can we and so that's how the Humane Society started this, basically with their idea, and so now, here we are ten years later," Leila said.

Jean Sporer said the plant sale is perfect timing for Mother's Day, with a variety of flowers and hanging plants to choose from. All proceeds go directly back to the Humane Society.

"If it wasn't for the help of all the people that come here, volunteers and other members of the board we couldn't do this, you know, it's great," Leila said.

Flowers are available from anywhere from $1.50 to $20 for a bouquet of roses. There is also an ice cream truck for the kids and cookbooks available for ten dollars each.

The sale is held at First Presbyterian Church until 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
