BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- On Thursday evening at the Mutchler Community Center in Bloomfield, Iowa, a Community Resource Center open house took place in honor of child abuse prevention month.
The event was organized to educate the community on what resources are available concerning children in Davis County.
Cheryll Jones, with Child Health Specialty Clinics and the University of Iowa shared with KTVO the true meaning behind the event.
“What we want to do today is share with the community and residents, some of the information on some of the agencies and some of the opportunities for themselves. For children, if there were issues, places they can go for help, but it is basically to let folks know what is available in Davis County, and there is a lot more then people realize,” said Jones.
Davis County Sheriff Dave Davis shared with KTVO a DNA kit that was available for parents for their children.
“We do offer fingerprint kits, it’s also a DNA kit; where the parent can go ahead and collect some hair and keep with this kit. Obviously we hope we never have to use one of these, but it would be beneficial to a situation where a child has been abducted or lose, and we were out there investigating something of that nature,” said Sheriff Davis.
Jones told KTVO that she hopes that this event will become a yearly tradition in Davis County.
