CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- Appanoose County is trying to teach kids and adults the importance of eating and living a healthy lifestyle.
This Saturday, the Rathbun Lake Area YMCA and the Appanoose County Family Alliance is holding their Take on Summer Healthy Kids Day Fair.
This event will have about 20 vendors to help encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping the mind and body active this summer.
"We want to help people make better and healthy choices," said Randy Groff, Executive Director of the Rathbun Lake Area YMCA. "We want the kids who are coming out of school stay active and healthy and have opportunities to do so. We are going to have all types of vendors to talk and educate families and things like that."
Groff says this event is all in part to help make Iowa a healthier state.
"We continue to find ways and opportunities to get help and the assistance people need to get healthy such as exercise and nutrition. They should be able to get all that information here at our event. Our goal is to improve the overall health of our community'," Groff said.
The Take on Summer Healthy Kids Day Fair will take place Saturday at the Rathbun Lake Area YMCA on 708 South Main Street in Centerville from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
