IOWA-MISSOURI -- There is good news for some Heartland drivers as gas prices continued their downward trend last week.

According to GasBuddy.com, gas prices in Missouri fell another 12 cents last week to a statewide average of $3.19. Missouri remains well below the national average of $3.56.

With the recent fall of prices, the current average in Missouri is unchanged from a year ago. Current prices are nearly 43 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

According to GasBuddy, it is unknown exactly what effect Hurricane Sandy will have on prices, but according to Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick Dehaan, he expects little change in prices west of the Mississippi River.

Missouri's state average price is the second lowest in the country.

The news from Iowa is not quite so good. The average price in Iowa is $3.39, which makes Iowa’s rank 15th in nation wide average gas prices.
