Have you ever wished after reading a book that not only would it be made into a movie, but that you’d have a say in the casting? Some real life fans of one series have been playing “fantasy casting” with the author of the Anita Blake series, Laurell K Hamilton.
Hamilton, who just released “Flirt” the 18th book in this series, has begun conversing with fans and responding to their questions on her Facebook page. While fans have enjoyed learning more about their beloved characters, the author herself and potential upcoming book destinations, the conversation on Monday turned to casting.
While Hamilton admitted that there are no current movie talks, she and her fans have had fun discussing potential actors for each character.
For some fans they see the beautiful and lethal vampire Jean Claude as Jared Leto, Ian Somerhalder or Davey Havok. Or the all American muscle bound werewolf Richard as one of many muscled hunks such as Jared Padalecki. Even some of the supporting characters have earned mention in the game of “what if” with suggestions of Jensen Ackles as Jason or Paul Bettany as Edward even Adam Lambart as Narcissist,. However the biggest debate seems to be about the petite and deadly necromancer heroine Anita Blake. Actresses such as Christina Ricci, Evangeline Lilly, Rose Mcgowen, Eliza Dushku and Yancy Butler have all been suggested by fans as being “their Anita”. As a fan of the series myself I would have to say my dream cast would include Eliza Dushku as Anita and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Jean Claude.
While it is only a fantasy casting, who knows. With books such as the Twilight series turning into blockbusters and Vampire Diaries becoming a hit of the small screen, fans of Hamilton’s Anita Blake series may someday see their fantasy casting become reality. But it’s not only the fans that are enjoying this online interaction. Hamilton wrote “I go to bed & you guys just keep on doing fantasy casting for the movie. *laughs* hey you made me smile.”
