KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- As we've previously reported, Novinger Coal Miner Days has been canceled this year because of the tornadoes and floods.
However, the two mile walk and 5k race is still on!
Event organizers say there was an interest from racers and officials to go forward with the Memorial Day tradition.
“We really have come together and this is a team effort to host this race and we've come together to host the race just to have a positive community event to allow people to get out and be active and enjoy the weather, it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend,” said Race Co-Director Ashley McCarty.
And the proceeds from the event go to a good cause. “This event benefits Novinger Renewal which is a non-profit community betterment program for Novinger as well as now that the YMCA is involved and has graciously agreed to host the race, also the Adair County Family YMCA,” said McCarty.
The location and time has changed. The race will begin at the Adair County Family YMCA on Jamison Street at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25th.
If you’ve already registered, you’re all set. If you haven’t, you can do that on race day.
With your registration fee ($12 for the run, $10 for the walk), you will get a backpack, water bottle, and a chance to win many prizes. There will also be refreshments, and snacks following the race along with fellowship.
