FAIRFIELD - On Saturday night, May 9, the Iowa Motion Picture Association
honored the film "Sister Patchouli" with one Award of Excellence and five
Awards of Achievement. The IMPA honors nominees to recognize Iowa's
film and video production community for its achievements in using the
moving image as a means to communicate, educate, and entertain.
Twenty-nine categories of film production were recognized at the ceremony
held at the Renaissance Savery Hotel in Des Moines.

"Sister Patchouli" was conceived, written, and filmed by Scott Thompson as
part of his efforts to promote community-based video productions. The movie
was filmed over the course of two weekends in May 2008 in and around the
Fairfield area. The writing style of Thompson's movies is unusual - the
cast is solicited and auditioned first, then the writing is built around the
personalities that become evident.

As a result of this writing style certain personalities were cultivated
during the course of making "Sister Patchouli", leading to the nomination of
several key memorable cast members:

Savannah Quinn won both the Award of Excellence and Award of Achievement for
Supporting Actress for her role as biker chick "Alexis".

Sondra Ward won the Award of Achievement for Best Actress for her role as
"Sister Patchouli (a/k/a "Patch").

David Patterson won the Award of Achievement in the Supporting Actor
category for his role as "Douglas", the Iraq war veteran.

John Alex Grant also won the Award of Achievement in the Supporting Actor
category for his role as "Ray".

Scott Thompson, founder/cameraman of My Town Pictures, and Catharine
Wadsworth (local producer) won the Award of Achievement for the
Entertainment, Long Form category.

Since the premiere in October, the film has been entered in numerous
independent film festivals. In February, the film won the Best Picture in
the FuzzB Film Festival and Helena-Grace Treadwell won the Rising Star award
for her role as "Hayley." In April the film was awarded the national Telly
award.

An encore showing is being scheduled in the near future. The movie is also
available on DVD. For more information and ordering the DVD, go to
MyTownPictures.com or call Cathy Wadsworth at 641-469-5704 or Bonnie
