KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- During the early morning hours of July 25th, the floor of Pershing Arena at Truman was covered in flood waters.

Tuesday crews began demolition on the floor and removing all of the damaged wood.
“We started today to demo the floor.  We're ripping it all out and starting over.  We hope that's finished by the end of this week/early next week and then the bids today for installing a new floor, we're taking bids and those are due today,” says Truman State University Athletic Director Jerry Wollmering.

The damaged floor was only two years old and was expected to last 30 years.

Wollmering says he hopes the new floor will be complete by October 1st.  That means the volleyball team will have to play their first few home games at Kirksville High School who will have a volleyball team for the first time ever.

Wollerming says the new floor is expected to cost between $120,000 and $130,000.

Wouldn't it make more sense to fix the problem instead of having to keep on fixing the result of the problem??? How about a little bit of preventative maintenance???
