KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Kirksville City Council threw its support behind not one, but two applications for housing tax credits from the state.

During Monday night's meeting, the council unanimously approved two resolutions supporting an application for Sheraton Square Apartments at the corner of East Illinois Street and Pfeiffer Avenue and one for Kirksville Heights Apartments on South Baltimore Street.

Both complexes want to undertake renovation projects.

"Anytime that folks are applying for tax credits from the state, they typically ask for city council's support of the project because if the city council supports the project, obviously it's going to score higher…in the evaluation process for the project,” said Melanie Smith, Kirksville assistant city manager.

Also at the city council meeting, Mayor Richard Detweiler recognized those who donated their time and energy to making the recent Battle of Kirksville event such a success.

Each committee member present was given a plaque for their hard work on the project.

The council also unanimously approved the Master Plan for Brashear Park as submitted by the Kirksville Lakes, Parks and Recreation Commission.
