Business Type: Foster Parents are community members who volunteer to receive 27 hours of training to provide care for children in the State of Missouri’s care. Each year additional training is necessary to renew licenses. Careful background screening is also obtained to provide a safe and secure environment for children in care. The majority of children in foster care have been placed due to parental abuse or neglect. The age of children in Missouri’s foster care is 41% ages 13 and above, 28% ages 6 to 12 and 31% are 5 and under. 52% are male. 48% are female. In Sept.2009, there were 9,238 foster children statewide with another 2,051 waiting for adoption. There was a need for foster families to unite for moral support, resource sharing and foster parent training so that we could better serve the children of Adair County. In 2004, several foster families joined together to form Foster Families of Adair County.
