KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Kirksville college student charged with forgery in an alleged cancer-faking scheme now faces a new charge.
Victoria “Tory" Marut, 22, of Kirksville is now charged with a felony of stealing by deceit.
Marut, a Truman State University student, was doing her internship at Kirksville Primary School this fall when officials allege she pretended to have terminal cancer and told teachers and staff she was undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
Investigators said Marut stole by deceit when she accepted an expensive
human-hair wig along with several hats to wear to cover her shaved head.
Court papers state that officials were able to confirm that Marut was not in treatment for cancer and had submitted forged documentation of a cancer diagnosis.
