Question The top 5 Car Insurance Myths:
#5 - The color of my car affects my insurance rate. Answer False: What does influence your rate is your vehicle's year, make, model, body type, credit history and driving record. Question #4 - If I lend my car to a friend and that friend is in an accident, his or her insurance will pay for the damages. Answer False: Your car, your responsibility. And guess what, even though you weren't present at the time of the accident, it will go on your insurance record and your premium could go up! Question #3 - I recently paid my insurance premium so the new car I just purchased is covered. Answer Be careful on this one...True...up to a point. Most insurance policies require the policyholder notify the agent or company within a specified number of days. Specifically for "full coverage". Question #2 - My credit score has no effect on my insurance rate. Answer False: Your credit score does matter. Most insurance companies take your credit score into consideration at the time you purchase car insurance. Some companies review your credit on a regular basis. Question #1 - As long as I have the minimum car insurance required by the state I'm covered if I hurt someone or damage their vehicle. I don't need more coverage than that. Answer This question has two answers...True to a point...but a bigger False if the damage or injury is severe. State minimum car insurance limits are what they imply..."minimum". If the damage you cause or injury you inflict costs more than your coverage, you will be held legally liable for the remaining amount. This could be thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
