Jane A. Bartling
1940 – 2013

Jane A. Bartling, of Kirksville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday (February 22, 2013). Her earthly needs were being superbly met by Dr. John Rickelman, Jr., D.O. at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

She recently celebrated her seventy-third birthday on February 14. She was a Valentine.

Jane was a product of the Hannibal Public School System. Her mentor there was the late Kay Patterson. After high school, she attended several colleges and universities. She ultimately received a Masters Degree in Physical education from Truman State University and a second Masters Degree in Health Education form the University of Northern Colorado.

Her teaching career lasted for more than thirty years. She primarily taught Health and Physical Education courses at Truman State University, where she retired in 1998.

Jane belonged to many professional organizations, including Delta Kappa. She was the sponsor of the local student chapter of the Missouri State Teachers Association for many years.

Among numerous publications, she was proudest of her tribute to Kay Patterson, which was published in Quest Journal in 1989.

She was united in marriage on December 29, 1966, to her husband of forty-six years, John, who survives her. She is also survived by three brothers-in-law: Carl Bartling and son Jason of Lake Charles, LA; Jim Bartling and wife, Margo and daughter, Tracy of Overland Park, KS; and George Bartling and wife Chong Nam, of Panama City, FL; as well as her cousin, Charlie Poage and wife, Barbara of Palmyra, MO.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday (February 28, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Reverend John Picker, Janice Legg and Lanny Morley officiating.

Pallbearers will be John Picker, Andrew Picker, Doyle Dover, Lanny Morley, David Powell, Carl Bartling and Jim Bartling.

If anyone elderly needs transportation call Travis-Noe Funeral Home Thursday morning at 665-1300.

Friends of Jane may linger and swap “Jane Bartling stories” until they are exhausted.

Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday (February 28, 2013) at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to R.S.V.P or to the Adair County Public Library. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
