MACON, MO. -- You are invited to attend a special presentation on Thursday evening, February 14, during the break between the girls' and boys' varsity basketball games at Adair County R-1 High School at Novinger. Adair County R-1 High School will be presented with a check from American Family Insurance in the amount of $500 for winning regional honors for the most improved seat belt usage of 152.97% from the first to the last seat belt check, and a banner and plaque from the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety for their participation in the program. The school will also be presented with a silver banner for their seat belt usage of 97.3%.
Penny Copelin, principal, will be accepting the award for the school and will be available for interviews, as well as those making the presentations.
Paul Stevens representing Jerry Phipps, Fred Collop and Bill Mangini, Agents with American Family Insurance, Amy Crawford and Marisa Christy-Kerns, representatives of the Northeast Coalition for Roadway Safety, and Adair County Sheriff Robert Harwick will be presenting the awards to the Adair County R-1 High School student body.
The Battle of the Belt is a seat belt competition between Missouri high schools to encourage the use of safety belts among students. The Battle of the Belt student safety belt competition runs from October 1 thru November 9.
