1919 - 2012

Lyal Cleone Stidmon, 92, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Monday (April 16, 2012) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.

Cleone was born to Elder Clyde Oral and Nola Faye (Rosebery) Johnson, on October 25, 1919 at Shibley’s Point, Missouri. On October 25, 1938, Cleone was united in marriage to Robert R. Stidmon. They were married 52 years prior to his death on June 26, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Gordon O. and Ruth Johnson; one sister and brother-in-law, Ethel M. and Guy W. Stidmon; her grandparents; one niece and nephew, Wanda Lou (Stidmon) and Bill York and two nephews, Robert Swanson and Donald Johnson.

Cleone is survived by numerous nephews and nieces, including six that were like children of her own: Ramah Jean (Stidmon) McCabe and husband, Francis; Leola Faye (Stidmon) Daniels and husband, Bob; Mary Ann (Stidmon) Harbur and husband, Leon; Glenda Sue (Stidmon) Swanson; Guyla Ruth Stidmon and Karen Johnson. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews and three more generations of nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Cleone received her education at Shibley’s Point grade school and graduated from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1937. She cooked at the Novinger R-I School cafeteria for 11 years and then at Northtown Café, Gingham Inn and Bonfoey Inn for over 20 years.  Prior to that time Cleone resided and worked on the family farm at Shibley’s Point. Her hobbies were baking cookies and pies, knitting and latch hooking.

She was a member of the Hazel Creek Primitive Baptist Church until her death. She was also a charter member of the Shibley’s Point Extension Club having attended 25 years without missing a meeting. She and her husband, Bob moved to Kirksville in 1972 and resided until their death.

Public visitation will be held Thursday (April 19, 2012) after 2:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday (April 20, 2012) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Elder Darle Siegel officiating and Elder Dillon Thurman assisting. Interment will follow the service at Lone Pine Cemetery, north of Martinstown, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Alvin Henderson, Ronnie Talbert, Ron Worley, Tim Crist, Milton Armstrong, and Ferl Elsea.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Cleone Stidmon may be made to the Hazel Creek Primitive Baptist Church or to Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
