Lois Irene (Martin) Crooks
1918 - 2009

 Lois Irene Crooks, 90, of Columbia, Missouri, formerly of Kirksville, passed away Friday (October 30, 2009) at South Hampton Place in Columbia.
 
 The daughter of Hugh Dennis and Lucinda Belle (Mullenix) Martin, she was born December 16, 1919 in Putnam County, Missouri. On September 19, 1936 in Macon, Missouri, Lois was united in marriage to Forest Lee Crooks who preceded her in death on April 4, 2007.
 
 She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Neal, Lee, Noah, Pharis and Woodie Martin and two sisters, Reta Mullenix and Mabel Piper.
 
 Lois is survived by two sons James L. Crooks and Shirley Lee of Kirksville, MO and David A. Crooks and wife, Lois Anderson of Columbia, MO; six grandchildren, Susan Holtman, Stephanie Crooks, Jennifer Meyer and husband Mike, David J. Crooks, Jesse Crooks and Ryan Crooks; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Holtman, Cassie Holtman, Mollie Holtman and Madison Holtman and several nieces and nephews.
 
 Lois received her education in the Martinstown grade school and was a graduate from the Unionville High School. She then attended Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College in Kirksville, where she received her Masters in Education. Before starting her teaching career, Lois was the majority house secretary for the Republican Party, while her husband Forest was a representative in the legislature. Lois taught Business Education a number of years at Green City R-I High School and her last three years she taught at Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Iowa until her retirement. After retiring, she worked a year for President Charles McClain at the University and also worked with her husband in the rental property business.

 Lois was a past member of P.E.O. and of the First Christian Church of Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (November 3, 2009) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri with Pastor Shane Brown officiating. Interment will follow the service at Martinstown Cemetery in Martinstown, MO.

 Public visitation is in progress and family will receive friends this evening, Monday (November 2, 2009) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

 Pallbearers will be David A. Crooks, Randy Holtman, Chris Holtman, Susie Holtman, Cassie Holtman and Mollie Holtman.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Lois Crooks may be made to the Martinstown Cemetery. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
