Leota Imogene (Brown) Snowbarger
1930 - 2009
Leota Imogene Snowbarger, 79, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday (October 7, 2009) at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
The daughter of Clarence and Katie Marie (Lehr) Brown, she was born April 30, 1930 in Wyman, Iowa. On December 17, 1950 in Unionville, Missouri, Leota was united in marriage to Donald Snowbarger.
Leota is survived by her husband, Donald of fifty-eight years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Max and Barbara Snowbarger of Denver, CO and Charles Douglas and Eleanor Snowbarger of Davenport, IA; eight grandchildren, Allen Snowbarger and wife Tracy of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Cheri Bates and husband Chris of St. Charles, MO, Jerry Snowbarger, Jr. of Denver, CO, Teresa Baca and husband, Anthony of Kearney, NE, Jacob Snowbarger of Rochester, N.Y., Joshua Snowbarger and wife Kristi of Davenport, IA, Katie Snowbarger and James Snowbarger of Welches, OR, a daughter-in-law, Lori (Snowbarger) Neeley and husband Ted of Welches, OR; a brother, LeRoy Brown and wife Pauline of LeClaire, IA; a brother-in-law, Charles Snowbarger of Cedar City, UT; a sister-in-law, Alberta Dotson of Lancaster, MO; three step grandchildren, Michael D’Aquisto of San Antonio, TX, Christina D’Aquisto and friend Tony of Denver, CO and Sondra D’Aquisto of Denver, CO as well as twelve great-grandchildren, several cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, one son, Darrell Snowbarger, one brother, Robert Brown; brothers-in-law, Richard Snowbarger, Denzil Snowbarger and Ray Smith; sisters-in-law, Betty Smith, Virginia Yates and Gladys Snowbarger and a nephew, Mitchel Snowbarger.
Leota spent her early years in Iowa, moving with her parents to Lancaster, Missouri, in 1944. She was a graduate from Lancaster High School with the Class of 1948. She worked two years as a waitress in a local café and bookkeeper for MFA in Lancaster, Missouri. After her marriage, she joined her husband Donald in Fort Campbell, KY where he was serving his country in the U.S. Army. In 1952, they moved to the Snowbarger family farm where she was a homemaker and housewife helping with farm work and raising their three sons.
In 1965, Leota started employment with Hollister, Inc. where she was a production supervisor for twenty years until retiring.
Leota enjoyed traveling, visiting all fifty states, Mexico, the Canadian Providences except one, and several European countries.
She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, Bunco, cooking and baking, (especially angel food cakes and homemade noodles), taking care of her yard, piecing quilts and other crafts, going to the casino’s and entertaining her family and friends. She also loved painting ceramics and made many items for Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and St. Johns Ladies Aide at Queen City, Missouri. A Charter member of Modern Mrs. Club of Schuyler County and a volunteer of RSVP of Adair County and of Women of the Moose #824 of Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday (October 12, 2009) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Jeremy McElvain officiating. Interment will follow the service at Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, Missouri.
Public visitation will be held Sunday (October 11, 2009) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Don Yates, Del Pockrandt, Dick Roberts, John Lechner, Jeff Snowbarger, Russell Bushnell and Ronald Atkinson.
