Students encourage organ donation

The Advanced Anatomy and Physiology class at Ottumwa High School recently received a grant to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation in our community. Students will be working together to spread the word by placing advertisements in local publications, making t-shirts, distributing wristbands and key chains, and presenting PowerPoint presentations to area schools.

Did you know that there are over 100,000 people on the waiting list for organ and tissue donation in the United States? There are 550 people on the waiting list in Iowa alone. Every 80 minutes, someone dies while waiting on that list. This problem is too large to ignore.

What can you do to help? Give the gift of life and help make a difference by registering to be an organ donor. One organ donor can save up to 10 lives, and anyone (regardless of age, race, gender, health, etc.) can register. We encourage you to visit IowaDonorNetwork.com to register to be a donor and mention you heard about organ donation from Ottumwa High School. Also visit our class website www.ohsadvancedanatomy.weebly.com, or find us on Facebook at OHS Organ and Tissue Donation for more information.
