Adair County SB40 Awards Grant to Chariton Valley Association at November Meeting

Backup Generator System Will Sustain Medically Fragile Residents During Power Outages

The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board presented a grant in the amount of $7886 to Chariton Valley Association for Handicapped Citizens at the SB40's November 13 board meeting. Terry Combs, Executive Director for CVA, was on hand to accept the check on behalf of the local non-profit agency. The grant, along with funding from a Surbeck Trust grant and from CVA, will be used to purchase and install a full generator backup power system for the Chariton Valley Residential Center. The Center is home to fourteen individuals who have developmental disabilities and are medically fragile. In the event of a power outage during severe weather, the backup power system will maintain full power at the Center for heating or cooling, lighting, and operation of medical equipment essential to the health and safety of the people who live there. The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board is a not-for-profit governmental organization which funds essential services to enrich the lives of persons with developmental disabilities in Adair County. Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 pm at the PACT Activity Center, 1107 Country Club Drive, Kirksville.
