Free parenting education programs for Adair County parents of children ages 3 to 6 and 7 to 12 begin in September

Great Circle will offer free parenting education classes beginning in September for Adair County parents of children ages 3 to 6 and children ages 7 to 12. Groups meet weekly for 12 weeks. Classes run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes for parents of children ages 3 to 6 begin on September 11. Classes for parents of children ages 7 to 12 begin September 12. Classes will be offered at Great Circle Kirksville office at 2416 S. Franklin, Suite A. The classes feature the Incredible Years video-based parenting education program. Topics include learning to play with your child, increasing positive behavior through praise, limit setting among others. Each class is led by a trained group leader. Sessions include reviewing video vignettes, group discussion, role playing and practice activities to tray at home with weekly assignments. The program is being made available through a grant from Children’s Trust Fund. The program helps strengthen families by increasing positive and nurturing parenting skills. Parents will learn anger management and communication skills, help with increasing family support networks and involvement with children’s academic-related activities at home and in school.These programs will be offered three times a year.
