Kirk-Tran Receives Grant from Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board

Local Partnerships Keep Ridership Fares Affordable

The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board presented a grant in the amount of $10,630 to Kirk-Tran at the SB40's July board meeting. Patti Preston, President of Kirk-Tran's Board, accepted the check on behalf of the local non-profit transportation agency. Kirk-Tran serves hundreds of Adair County citizens every week, including a significant number of persons with disabilities who would not otherwise have transportation available for medical trips, employment, community events and shopping. While a large portion of the agency's funding comes from the Missouri Department of Transportation, Kirk-Tran's ongoing partnership with local groups, such as the SB40, the City of Kirksville, United Way and the Kirksville Regional Office, enable Kirk-Tran to keep rates affordable to riders. A ride within the city limits costs only $2.00, while the fare for a ride outside the city limits is $3.00. The Adair County SB40 is a not-for-profit governmental organization which funds essential services to enrich the lives of persons with developmental disabilities in Adair County.
